By anybody’s reckoning the UK Government’s handling of the pandemic has been an almighty omnishambles.
A particularly shameful aspect is the failure to provide NHS frontline workers with proper personal protective equipment (PPE). So far, over a hundred healthcare workers have died from coronavirus and many more have caught the disease.
In support of the legal challenge over government PPE policy being brought by NHS doctors Dr Nishant Joshi and Dr Meenal Viz, London agency Don't Panic has created Deepfake News: Coronavirus Apology, a cracking piece of satire written and produced by Joe Wade and Heydon Prowse (of the BAFTA award-winning TV show, The Revolution Will Be Televised), alongside Jake Moss, with BoJo impersonator Darren Altman and some deepfake tech from New Zealand studio Dr Fakenstein, that’s resulted in a spectacular blond barnet that almost has a life of its own.
The first in a planned series of deepfakes from the team, the film sees Boris make a formal apology for the government’s woeful response to Covid-19.
Glossary for our non-UK cousins…
Pleb = person of low birth
Spaff = squander (also ejaculate)
Snafu = Situation Normal All Fucked Up
Of the campaign, Dr Nishant Joshi commented: “If you believe our frontline NHS workers need the correct PPE to protect themselves while fighting Covid-19 please contribute anything you can to our legal costs now and share this page with your friends, family and on social media.”
