It is a truth universally acknowledged among long-term couples that, at times, there is simply nothing more irritating than one's spouse/significant other.
Those endlessly repeated sayings and habits, those weird peccadilloes, those SWEATPANTS!! LIAKH’s fanciful film for Big Yellow Self Storage amusingly accesses the occasional pain of co-habitation.
The tragicomical tale, Get Some Space, plays off the fact that Big Yellow Self Storage gives you more room in life - whether it's to salvage a relationship strained by obsessive dancing or to remove the dancing (and the dancer) altogether.
LIAKH reveals: The idea was born out of a previous project about a guy who loves a pub jukebox so much he brings it home, replaces the fridge with it and then his family leaves him. Long story short, we didn’t get to show it to client. But what if we did? It’s as hypothetical as the reason why millions of ideas die in the “graveyard” section across millions creative decks… What’s not hypothetical is the fact the crew of equally frustrated filmmakers agreed to resurrect this script into a spec ad with me. Maybe we should just make the ads we want to make for fun. Maybe fridges are redundant. Maybe the true joy of short-form filmmaking is doing a drive-by-endcard-shooting at Big Yellow Self Storage?”
