ARAG looks into the legal future
Kathy Najimy stars in new ARAG Legal Insurance campaign by BarkleyOKRP.
ARAG Legal Insurance, the leading legal insurer worldwide, is challenging the belief that “legal problems only happen to other people” with a new campaign developed in partnership with independent agency BarkleyOKRP.
Titled Legal Happens the work confronts a surprising reality: while many people insure their cars and homes, few prepare for legal issues even though three out of four people have experienced a legal event in the last three years.
The campaign reframes legal insurance as an essential safety net by making the risk feel real, personal and imminent. It makes people believe it will happen to them by giving them a glimpse into their inevitable legal futures.
“Too often, categories like legal insurance live in the realm of the hypothetical. This campaign is about transforming possibility into probability in the consumer’s mind,” said Chris Owens, ARAG Director of Marketing. “But in a way that’s also entertaining and hard to ignore.”

To bring the idea to life, ARAG partnered with pop culture icon Kathy Najimy, who appears as a fortune‑teller predicting the legal misfortunes people are highly likely to experience. From disputes with contractors to fighting traffic tickets and neighbor issues, each scenario reinforces a simple message: legal problems aren’t a matter of if, but when, and being protected can make all the difference.
The creative work blends cultural relevance with emotional insight, using humour and unease to make an abstract risk suddenly tangible. By centering on prediction, the campaign flips the typical legal insurance narrative, helping audiences move from “that could never happen to me” to “I should be ready when it does.”
“When it comes to legal issues, people assume it won’t happen to them,” said Chris Cima, V.P. Creative Director at BarkleyOKRP. “This campaign was about creating an understanding that being prepared for legal issues is as important as being prepared for health issues. Kathy Najimy was the perfect partner to deliver that message with credibility, warmth, and just the right amount of mischief.”
The Legal Happens campaign includes three TV and streaming video spots, social video, and digital extensions.
