Twitter Plugin Pushes the Gender Agenda

Launched today at the female-focussed tech conference, Women of Silicon Roundabout, #DiversifyYourFeed is a plugin that analyses your Twitter following and makes suggestions for a more gender-balanced feed.

A joint venture between Acne and Deliotte Digital, the tech aims to promote diversity by tackling the algorithmically-generated ‘echo chambers’ of today's online communications. Aside from liberal or ethical concerns, with research showing that access to a broader range of views can lead to better decision making and that more diverse companies have healthier profits, the time to consider diversity is now. 

While gender is the plugin’s current focus, #DiversifyYourFeed will eventually tackle other forms of diversity, including ethnicity, sexuality, religion and politics. There are also plans afoot to adapt the plugin to diversify other social platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook.
