A Week in the Life of shots
Ever wondered what we get up to at Cannes other than racing up & down the Croisette and hosting the best party of the week? Well now's your chance to find out.
Monday:
Selena Schleh, Deputy Editor: Touchdown in Cannes. After some wrangling with the registration desk over whether my five-years-out-of-date headshot constitutes a true likeness (working at shots has obviously prematurely aged me) I leave clutching the all-important press pass and sneak in half an hour of beach time before getting ready for R/GA's annual media dinner...
... who have outdone themselves this year with a stunning restaurant, high up in the hills overlooking Saint Paul de Vence. The perfect way to ease into a frenetic week.
Tuesday:
Olivia Atkins, Associate Editor: Holding the fort back home. Copious amounts of tea needed to get those award stories up and newsletters sent out. Thank god the weather is on my side... Cannes-inspired indeed!
Selena: As Olivia soaks up the sun, I'm settling in for a marathon 11-hour judging stint alongside my fellow jurors for the Young Director Award 2018. As always, we're amazed by the level of craft and creativity from directors who are only at the start of their careers. The future looks very bright.
Wednesday:
Selena: Back to back meetings today, but I manage to squeeze in half an hour at the Palais, checking out the print/press/outdoor entries. My favourite bit of print this year was KFC's Hot & Spicy, out of Ogilvy Hong Kong.
Finishing up at the FCB yacht party. Great place to acquire a new pair of shoes for free.
Thursday:
Danny: Chairing a panel for the YDA with the informative, intelligent and distinctly better dressed Rozanne Rocha-Grey, Terence Neale, Ferdinando Verderi and Jenny Pham.
Danny: You may have seen our bit of news this week about shots' new owners and, for the first time, this is the new-look editorial team having a pre-shots Beach Party stomach-lining dinner before heading into the fray. From l-r, Daniel Huntley, Selena Schleh, Jamie Madge and me. Daniel won the beard competition hands-down, in case you're wondering.
Danny: We came, we saw, we continue to suffer from debilitating hangovers but that doesn't stop us. Usually. Another great shots Beach Party went off on the Carlton Beach and thanks to everyone who made it down.
Friday:
Danny: I've actually only been here for less than 48 hours and have already managed to sweat my way through a week's worth of clothes (sorry for that mental image, by the way).
Danny: Another year, another final prize-giving ceremony. Descending the famous red-carpeted stairs for the last time in 2018.
Danny: Love the hotel we always stay at in Cannes (I'd name check it but don't want to find it fully booked for next year) but won't miss the three flight of stairs I have to navigate to reach my room/the exit every day.
