Epic is one way to describe the annual FIFA World Cup. And the spirit of this year's event - held in Russia - has been commemorated in an epic film, with each scene woven in a loom, by BBC Creative.

Captured by Blinkink's Nicos Livesey, The Tapestry takes viewers through the history of the game, reviving iconic moments from footballers Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane and Paul Gascoigne to preempt what this year's Cup has in store.

“Choosing which iconic moments to feature was a detailed process; where do you start and finish with the most iconic tournament in the world?" says the BBC's Creative Director, Tim Jones. "To have made this film and a real life tapestry, is testament to the creativity, talent and ambition of the team in Salford and everyone involved in this project.”

The production process behind the spot was incredible. Every single frame - of the 600 - in the ad was individually embroidered, using more than 227,000 metres of thread. The full idea will be transformed into a 7-metre tapestry, which will be publicly displayed once moments from this year's World Cup have been stitched into the masterpiece.

Look out for an interview with The Tapestry director later this week.
