Hands reveal a great deal about a person; their age, occupation, personality and mood. In this beautiful ad by 1985, an interview with designer Kenzo Takada focuses on the movements and textures of his hands, revealing a side to him that is not always visible in the cutthroat fashion industry.

The film was created by asking Takada a series of questions, but rather than film the spot in a classic interview style and capture his face, the camera closely follows his hands. As a designer, Kenzo places high importance on this body part as they are the mediums that bring his visions to life.

Over shots of his hands tapping, waving, drawing and playing a tiny piano, the narrator explains: "The hand is the tool of the soul."

Kenzo's Hands makes for a very personal portrait of the renowned deisgner, contrasting quiet, soft music with extreme close-ups.

Look out for shots' fashion issue, out now.
