Produced by CNN and Strange Beast for International Women's Day, What Is Beauty? is an animated film that documents the morphology of female body paradigms over the past 30,000 years. It begins with recognizable beauties in art from ancient fertility goddesses to Kim Kardashian, ending with a woman on her phone, scrolling through the silicone and photo-shopped bodies of modern women portrayed on social media.
The film's creator Anna Ginsburg ends the film with a plea for us to accept that female beauty ideals are always in flux, and that there is no single definition for beauty. She encourages viewers to embrace all shapes, colors and sizes of the female form because they are all beautiful.
