Volkswagen: Roboboy

Pink Rabbit create the greatest fancy dress costume of all time in the latest Volkswagen ad from the Netherlands.

Fancy dress is the sort of thing your parents put a lot of effort into or they don't. For every elaborate Mad Hatter's Tea Party, complete with cups, saucers and an unwieldy headdress there is a forlorn-looking child in a big bag with holes cut out of it who has come as a 'black ghost'.

The parents of the central child in Roboboy, directed by ISMAEL of Pink Rabbit for ACHTUNG!mcgarrybowen, are definitely in the former camp. Not only does the kid's costume turn from a VW car into a full-on Transformer (with definite shades of that classic Citroen ad), but that car has working lights, danger sensors, and reversing alarms. Not only does it manage to have more story than a real Transformers film, but it makes even your best childhood fancy dress look like crap.
