Who better to sell pet insurance than a pet?
This question was at the heart of Young & Rubicam Prague's quirky campaign for a Czech insurance company. Across three months, they trained an African Grey parrot to say 'pojištění zvířat' (that's 'pet insurance' in Czech, linguistics fans), then installed him in a number of major pet stores by an iPad where people could sign up for pet insurance.
"The parrot, named Carl, was taught to say “Pet Insurance”, thereby enabling him to take up his job in sales," say Y&R, which is definite shade to insurance salesmen. Maybe the creative team have had one cold call too many?
The parrot was taught to say the phrase by an animal coach [pictured above] who once worked on the Matt Damon film The Bourne Supremacy, which combined with this makes for one of the most weirdly varied CVs we've seen.
