April Fool's Day 2017 Round-Up
From burger-flavoured toothpaste to chocolate bar-based underwear, we round-up the branded pranks from April 1
"
What's that? In this era of 'alternative facts' and 'fake news' the idea of April Fool's Day leaves a bitter taste in your mouth as you consider four years under an April Fool's President or consider the impacts of Brexit? Well that's awkward, because we've been collecting the best branded pranks all week.
Ah well, you're here now, so might as well read it, before Trump implements his ban of words longer than one syllable...
JUST KIDDING! APRIL FOOL'S! See, it's fun right? Right?!
Snickers
From the brand that who 'knows how to package nuts better than anyone' comes Sknickers, a range of underwear for men. Created by AMV BBDO and directed by Rankin for Rankin Film, the prank was in support of Orchid, a men's cancer charity, who received a donation for Snickers and will receive a £1 donation for every share of Snickers' social media post from 3-9 April.
Burger King
In a pretty pitch-perfect parody, made for the brand by Buzzman, Burger King lampooned the pseudoscience of toothpaste commercials, with Whopper toothpaste, full of 'flame-grilled microganules' and 'anti-cavity steak'.
Krispy Kreme
Apparently British people don't know whether Krispy Kreme is pronounced 'Crispy Cream' or 'Crispy Crème', showing exactly the sort of bright thinking that led to Article 50 being triggered last week. To highlight this, MC2 made thousands in the UK think the doughnut brand was changing its name to 'Krispy Cream',
Pizza Hut
Want to get away from it all whilst putting two fingers up to the Clean Eating police? Well now you can('t) at O&M London's Pizza Huts Spa Retreat, where vistors can indulge in 'warming pepperoni face masks,' 'relax in garlic dip' or engage in some 'therapeutic dough rolling'. Though to be fair I could do with a little therapeutic dough rolling after wading through a week of branded pranks...
O2
In what is less an April Fool's Prank and more a great idea/potential torture device, Lida created a viral video saying that O2 would be increasing the blue light on its messages between 9am and 5pm, with blue light apparently being great at keeping people awake.
Rick and Morty
Oddly, the one voice of sanity this April Fool's Day was madcap animated TV show Rick and Morty, who released a surprise episode on April 1, with the biggest prank of all being that it was real.
