Fashion brand Diesel has just released its Spring/Summer 17 campaign, it's largest global campaign to date, which aims to build on its rebellious reputation and which has been shot by photographer and filmmaker David LaChapelle.
The campaign, created by Anomaly Amsterdam, is focussing on the core value of commenting on culture with a view to inspiring positive change. Aiming to be the 'voice of revolt', Diesel's campaign is called Make Love Not Walls, an obvious reference to current, controversial political decisions in the US.
The SS17 work will, the brand and agency believe, "[provide] a more inclusive human point of view... that translates Diesel’s appetite for bravery, love and provocation in today’s world".
The new campaign sees LaChapelle return to work for the brand 22 years after his iconic and controversial Diesel campaign which showed two male sailors kissing [below]; one of the first big-budget, public advertising campaigns featuring a gay couple kissing. He has undertaken the press and poster images for this campaign as well as directing the accompanying film [top].
"At Diesel, we have a strong position against hate and, more than ever, we want the world to know that,” explains Dielsel's artistic director, Nicola Formichetti. “Love and togetherness is crucial in creating a society we all want to live in, and the future we all deserve.”
“Diesel has always been a rebellion brand, the voice of the disestablishment," says Engin Celikbas, CEO and partner at Anomaly Amsterdam. "They know who they are as a company and are not afraid to be an active global participant. There are those who watch as culture is created and there are those who take part in its shaping. Diesel is unquestionably the latter, which means that creativity can actually move the needle.”
The campaign will launch at the Nicholls & Clarke Building at Shoreditch High Street on February 19.
