McCann has unveiled a new initiative to encourage young people into the ad industry, which it hopes will bolster diversity.

Prospective employees can now complete 15-minute one-on-one Skype sessions with the agency’s CCOs and co-presidents, Rob Doubal and Laurence Thomsonwhere they can ask questions about working in the industry, find out how to stand out and be shown work.

Inspired by feedback received from current interns, who revealed that they found it tough to enter the industry, Doubal and Thomson began conducting these Open Hour sessions.

“Our aim is to attract talent from beyond the usual routes of university and Art College,” says McCann’s group head of talent Rob Stone. “We believe that hiring from various backgrounds gives us the breadth we need to truly understand our clients. We already recruit from diverse industries (for example fashion, music, and even the police force) but we want to take that a step further and give ourselves a broader base from which to build a diverse future workforce.”

The new initiative will be promoted among schools and job centres nationwide, in a bid to get as many interested individuals using the resource and more people through its doors with diverse interests and experiences.
