With the festive feast of commercials in full swing, this weekend saw the release of Marks & Spencers' 2016 Christmas commercial, and it's a cracker. The three-minute film, called Mrs Claus, which aired during this Saturday's X-Factor commercial break (and which also has 30- and 60-second cut downs) is directed by Smuggler's Tom Hooper through RKCR/Y&R London..

The film stars renowned actress Janet McTeer as the titular Mrs Claus, who, after waving off her husband for his annual present-run, takes it upon herself to help a young boy trying to make amends after consistently annoying his older sister.

Hooper, director of feature films including The King's Speech and Les Miserables, spoke to shots about the making of the spot and why he was attracted to the project, which subscribers can read later on Monday November 14.
