Earlier this week, hit franchise Call of Duty returned to the gaming fray, plugging its latest space-themed title Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare with this pacey live-action trailer.

Now game publisher Activision and innovation agency AKQA have stepped things up a notch with a bespoke Facebook Messenger experience that allows CoD fans to visit the jaw-dropping planetary environments showcased in the game.

After logging onto the Call of Duty channel on Messenger, Terminal Tours will take you on a chatbot-enabled tour of space, accompanied by a quirky tour guide, Alana (played by actress Kate Micucci of Scrubs fame, below), stopping off on Mars, the moons of Titan and Europa and more.

Sound appealing? Well, there's just one slight hitch: you're highly unlikely to make it back in one piece, as the small print on the Terminal Tours launch film makes clear: "Spacesuit and helmet will be provided but are no guarantee of returning to Earth alive."

That's because every choice you're offered is, in classic Call of Duty style, extremely dumb, and inevitably results in a fatal but funny accident - like falling over the edge of a crater trying to capture the ultimate selfie. Well, at least your untimely demise will be GIF-able and share-worthy...

Terminal Tours is the first narrative experience to be launched on the official Call of Duty Messenger channel, which will also supply game information and player support in the future. With chatbots being hailed as the future of advertising, the games-maker will be hoping to blow CoD's 24 million Facebook fans away.
