On My Radar: Rebecca Wray
Rebecca Wray, executive producer at LA-based production company, Durable Goods, reveals what's on her radar.
What’s the best ad campaign you’ve seen recently?
It’s not actually new, but the Love Has No Labels experiential piece from R/GA, with the X-Ray, is extremely moving. That kind of work truly reverberates with people long after airing and really makes them think.
What website(s) do you use most regularly and why?
The Daily Mail is my go-to for news. They seem to be the quickest in terms of getting information up on a global scall. Facebook is where I look for general content and I use Wiredrive for making reels.
What’s the most recent piece of tech that you’ve bought and why?
Ring Video Doorbell. I travel a lot and it allows me to check my door from anywhere in the world—a lifesaver more often than you’d think.
Facebook, Instagram or Twitter?
Facebook. Besides being connected to your personal circle, it helps connect you with friends of friends in the industry. Specifically, it’s really great for seeing what someone looks like if you’re meting them in person for the first time.
What’s your favourite app on your phone and why?
TaskRabbit. I’m not a handyman by any means and this allows me to find good, reliable labour in my area.
What’s your favourite TV show and why?
Stranger Things. How can you not love mystery and sci-fi mixed with 80s nostalgia?
What film do you think everyone should have seen?
The Big Lewbowski, hands down.
Where were you when inspiration last struck?
Surprisingly binge-watching Undercover Boss. Real life struggles that you see the average person going through, but having so much pride in the menial jobs they do, made me really have life perspective.
What’s the most significant change you’ve witnessed in the industry since you started working in it?
The way that technology has altered our ways of receiving content. Now, we are fully connected to the digital world at all times — which can be a blessing and a curse.
If there was one thing you could change about the advertising industry, what would it be?
More client education. I feel if the agencies would fully explain the real costs of things, no matter the distribution channel of the media itself, it would help them understand the budgets we submit.
What or who has most influenced your career and why?
The talent [directors] for making us push the boundaries to make great work.
Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…
I used to barrel race in horse shows.
