Here’s a fantastical treat directed by Berllin-based duo Wolf & Lamm (Joffrey Jans and Kai Kurve) for Swiss menswear retailer Strellson.
The branded music video, from Munich agency Serviceplan Campaign X, features producer MNEK's rendition of Queen’s Don't Stop Me Now and was launched on monday, which would have been the 70th birthday of Queen's late frontman Freddie Mercury. Slickly produced by Neverest and Wanda, the video features the suitably flamboyant adventures of a sharp-suited, moustache-stroking dandy who skips – literally at times – along a succession of bizarre urban streets getting away with mischief.
Said dandy makes his jaunty entrance climbing out of a submarine’s sail (the sticky-up bit on top, for the non-mariners among you); the vessel appearing to have crashed up through the tarmac of a city street one dark, rainy night.
This only marginally adds to the oddness of an urban scene already rich in surrealities – an old geezer clutching a large lizard, another old fella pushing a glam minx around in a supermarket trolley. Our hero goes on to encounter oversized, anthropomorphised doughnuts on fire, chess tournaments and quite a few barely-clad lasses before ending up clambering cheekily back down into his submarine and presumably sailing off beneath the streets and beyond the reaches of our imaginations.
