CZAR Germany’s Johannes Schröder, who’s worked with directors such as Michael Haneke and The Wachowskis has helmed an intriguing promo to accompany German pop star Maxim’s latest track, Pille Aus Luft.

Illustrating the singer’s typically dark emotional lyrics, the video hints at anguished love as a camera starts close on a couple gazing at each other in a gloomy warehouse and gradually tracks back to reveal more intriguing doings that are slowly revealed as the frame expands.

The viewer’s gaze is held as the scene unfolds to reveal curios, such as an elderly man with a shotgun, a catatonic woman on a sofa with dolls and eventually more disturbing vignettes such as grinning business men with blood dripping from their hands.

Both the song (which translates as 'Pill Of Air') and the visuals are largely unfathomable, but we were gripped.
