Step one: write your anxiety on a bit of gaffa tape.

Step two: stick the gaffa tape onto your mouth, taking care to avoid any bearded or moustached areas.

Step three: Take a video of yourself ripping off the gaffa tape – be sure to use the #TakeOffTheTape hashtag – et voila, be glad that you are no longer weighed down by your worries. A full demonstration video can be seen below.

This is the latest initiative from mental health charity Mind, which has paired together with MEC to raise awareness of the issue and thrust it into the public eye.

Mental health is an increasingly misunderstood subject but it is a problem that is affecting more people in their day-to-day lives.

#TakeOffTheTape encourages social media users to open up about their thoughts by sharing short clips of themselves liberating themselves of the anxieties scrawled on the tape.

CBBC presenter Ben Shires (below) was one of the first to take part in the campaign although he was shortly followed by other celebrity ambassadors.

“By encouraging everyone to talk more honestly about things being tough, we can help people feel more comfortable about admitting that they need some support,” says Mind’s Ruth Richards.

The campaign also attempt to reduces some of the stigma that currently surrounds mental health. So, refuse to be silenced and get involved – either by creating a video or donating to Mind, via text (text TAPE to 70660) or online.
