Love is all around us this week in the run up to Valentine's Day and yet love for our planet is often forgotten in the emotionally-fuelled national holiday.
But not any more, thanks to the UK's climate change group, Climate Change Coalition, which has included the date in its annual marketing strategy and returned with another campaign to follow last year’s poetic work.
This year, #showthelove attempts to remind the public about our planet and encourage us to demand that we #go100percent clean and only use renewable energy.
Members of the public across various industries – including football clubs, celebrities and school children – are lending their support by partaking in a series of green heart events leading up to Sunday.
Today, a 72 year-old Women’s Institute (WI) member is having a green heart tattooed in Kent, while other WI members across the UK will craft green hearts (below) and green heart quilts.
Tomorrow, the BT Tower will be doused in green light, while climbers from the British Mountaineering Council will also raise a green heart flag at the top of Ben Nevis to commemorate the occasion.
“So much we love is under threat from climate change," says English actor Jeremy Irons. "December’s historic agreement in Paris might lead some people to believe that the job is done – but Paris simply set the direction of a journey we must now all take together. My grandchildren won’t be safe and secure until we take proper care of our one and only planet.”
The campaign's ad (at top), created by RSA and helmed by Stuart Rideout, sees a young girl remember the promise she made to her grandfather about protecting the planet. The five minute long spot encourages us to think about what change we can make to improve the environment.
To get involved, either visit an Oxfam shop to buy a green heart postcard (to post to your beloved) or tweet #showthelove. For more information, visit the website here.
