Mention ‘The F Word’ to someone and I bet you’ll get one of three responses.

Either, people will think that you’re politely swearing at them in a non-threatening, surprisingly tasteful way; that they’re perhaps referencing Gordon Ramsey; or that F (occasionally) stands in for feminism.

Female media company SheKnows Media has partnered with non-profit organisation Ms Foundation for Women to create a video competition dedicated to redefining feminism, aptly named #TheFWord.

Available to only US and Canadian citizens, interested filmmakers should submit a short video up to three minutes long to describe what feminism means to them.

Creativity, quality and originality are three aspects of interest for the panel of nine judges.

The panel features an assortment of talent from different roles and industries – including Zac Posen artist/co-founder Alexandra Posen; The Representation Project president Kristen Joiner and civil rights activist Michael Skolnik. A complete list of the competition’s criteria can be viewed here and all the judges are pictured below.

Entrants have until midnight on February 19 to submit their work, although the winning video will not be announced until April 12, which coincides with the US’ Equal Pay Day.

#TheFWord is a unique project that will provide invaluable insight into how a diverse cross section of people identify with the concept of feminism,” says Ms Foundation’s president/CEO Teresa C. Younger, who will also sit on the panel.

The winner will receive a $5,000 reward – including a $4,00 cash prize, a trip to New York City for #TheFWord's finale event and a Q&A on sheknows.com.
