BBDO Proximity Bangkok has worked with client Samsung to create a new app to aid the sufferers of Alzheimer's disease. The disease, a form of dementia which causes memory loss, can, say the agency, "take away conversations, daily life, events, and connections between the patient and loved ones".

The Memory Recaller is an app which aims to help those suffereing with Alzheimer's by using camera phones for facial recognition. Devised by specialists at the dementia unit of Praram9 hospital in Bangkok, the app's goal is to help bring patients back from the isolation caused by memory lost.

The application detects the person standing in front of the patient by utilising facial recognition on their mobile phone camera. It then informs the patient of the name of the person and their relationship to the user in auto-speech.

As well as recognising people for the patient through Memory Recaller, the application also has an Activity Recaller function which helps the patient keep track of completed activities to help eliminate activity repetition.
