Charity Auctions Off Their Spot in iPhone 6 Queue
Depaul UK sells a place in iPhone 6 launch queue to raise funds for homeless people.
Depaul UK, a national youth homelessness charity, has harnessed the fever surrounding the iPhone 6 for a good cause by bagging a prized spot in the queue for the new smartphone and selling it off to the highest bidder.
For the stunt, devised by agency Publicis London, volunteers from the charity and creatives Jason Moussalli and Adam Balogh slept rough outside the Apple Store in Oxford Circus, London, for two nights while people placed bids on eBay to nab their spot.
The lucky bidder was Adam Taranissi who paid £570 to take the position. All the money from the sale will go towards helping young people off the streets.
Martin Houghton-Brown, CEO at Depaul UK, says: “At Depaul UK we are always looking for innovative ways to tackle youth homelessness. If together we could harness some of the enthusiasm and energy we have for new phones into charitable actions then we'd likely have far fewer young people on the streets.”
More than 2,000 people sleep rough in the UK every night and each year 80,000 young people experience homelessness. There has been a steady rise in homelessness in the UK over the past three years.
