My shots Monday: St Patrick's Day 2014
In a new feature based around our My shots share function, we look at some Irish-themed spots for St Patrick's Day.
Tonight we all embrace our Irish-ness as swarms of people descend on pubs across the globe to express their appreciation for Ireland’s biggest holiday, St Patrick’s Day.
Doubtless dressed in oversized rugby shirts and adorned with foam Guinness hats, they’ll seek out the closest Irish pub – themed or otherwise - to drink pint after pint of the black stuff and take in some traditional Irish music such as U2 and The Script.
As torchbearers for a good knees up ourselves, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t join the antics so we’ve seized this opportunity to launch our new My shots Monday post; a segment dedicated to highlighting the perks of our new site feature.
Online presents
With a better search tool, follow functions and sharable content, the newly-launched shots.net has undergone a dramatic makeover and one of the improved features is the My shots tool, which allows subscribers to create and share their favourite spots with their online peers with a shareable link (which expires after 48 hours).
Scour the shots video archive - which features over two decade’s worth of top creative work from some of the industry’s most celebrated figures – then compile specific folders and send on the results to your friends and colleagues to highlight your findings and research.
We’ve compiled our St Patrick’s Day highlights as an example to start you off and the list includes a mixed bag of brands and ads with an Irish theme.
Luck of the Irish
We all love a good lucky charm and in a CG spot for the Irish National Lottery a story unfolds before our eyes of a leprechaun’s attempt to seize some gold in an enchanted forest with four-leafed clovers and rainbows aplenty.
The gem was directed by animation collective Psyop through agency David & Goliath and Smuggler takes care of the production.
Going green
Nick Gordon’s hard-hitting spot for Skoda promotes a green theme for the Fabia vRS, fuelled by a strong group of no-nonsense characters who enforce the message. The ad was created through Fallon and resonates with the resolute substance of the Irish nation.
Sing a Rainbow
Revisiting with the theme of luck and rainbows and the people in DDFH & B Dublin’s commercial for the Irish National Lottery are treated to a visual spectacle as a colourful spectrum arrives unannounced in the sky across a river. Admiring the view, passers-by stop to get a glimpse and the spot is directed by Steve Green via Sweet Media.
Product placement
If you’re going to get on the Guinness you’ll need to line your stomach beforehand and who better than LA star chef Roy Choi to guide you on your way. In a campaign thought-up by Google Glass creators and Anomaly New York the video sees Choi serve up the ultimate St Paddy’s Day treat in a leprechaun-inspired burrito.
Surf’s up
As said, no St Patrick’s Day is complete without a pint of the black stuff and Jonathan Glazer helms one of the industry’s most iconic ads as a group of adventurers take to the waves in his timeless classic of greyscale glory. Surfer for Guinness was created by AMV BBDO London.
