Back in October last year, agency Crispin, Porter + Bogusky released a promo trailer for Microsoft’s upcoming next-gen console, the Xbox One, which invited fans to crossover from their everyday lives into a no holds barred forum of fantasy with superstars such as footballer Steven Gerrard.
Having launched the console, a few months later – in January 2014 – a cut down version of the ad (below) was relaunched with B-Reel, this time with a glitch in the footage, marking the start of a new treasure hunt-style caign, requiring intelligence, skill and lateral thinking from participants smart enough to work out the hints which lie ahead.
UK viewers were set the challenge during an ad break, which soon set social media ablaze with would be sleuths trying to decipher the cryptic clues and following the alluring Easter eggs.
All signs eventually led to a white van parked in a remote area where inside lie the ultimate prize for gaming fans – an Xbox One console, a range of games and devices including a limited edition controller and even a Titanfall-themed trip to the USA.
