‘Blood, sweat and tears’ is a term used too loosely in this industry, but watch the new video from Mother and production co Good Egg for Fatboy Slim and we think you’ll agree that it’s a pretty accurate description of what went down in Hackney, East London, a few weeks ago at the shoot for Eat Sleep Rave Repeat.

Invited onto set, shots got a sneak peak of what would become the mad, brave and irresistibly entertaining promo you see before you, with a live dance endurance contest executed in line with the single’s concept and lyrics, and the documentary rounding up the event which is slated to follow.

Answering an ad call via a talent agency, with further street casting in Hackney, a whopping 300 participants turned up at the dingy basement location on the day, full of enthusiasm and hope of claiming the promised £500 cash prize.

Having signed a no-drug, no-alcohol and safety disclaimer, the young revellers were set loose inside the venue as DJs performed on the decks. The rules were simple; to keep dancing on through the day with the aim of being the last one standing on the floor. It was intense to say the least…

“Blood. Sweat. Tears. Puke. Ambulance. Paramedics. Thankfully with a happy ending,” recalls director Mark Waites of his memories from the day. “We filmed right into the night.”

“The final dance-off was particularly gruelling between Adrian and 17 year old Harry, who got nothing for coming second and had a huge pile of homework to complete before Monday morning,” continues video commissioner/EP John Hassay at Good Egg. “Adrian danced like a champ from the very start and looked like he could have carried on well into the next day. He won the £500 prize in a winner-takes-all scenario and is a worthy champion.”

Adrian appears in the final video holding up his shirt in a behind-the-scenes interview captured during the contest. The participants were allowed short breaks in which they could grab some quick food and the crew also used the intervals as an opportunity to collate thoughts on the revellers while the event was in session. A promo teaser was released prior to the full video which you can see here.

Overall the shoot was a mammoth task and, as with any live executions, the unpredictability made it especially tough but the team pulled through with Norman Cook, AKA Fatboy Slim himself, making an appearance on the decks to inject fresh energy into the ravers.

“With 72 hours of rushes it’s been an absolutely massive edit,” says Hassay, before concluding: “It’s a killer video and Mark Waites is a prince amongst men. We would definitely like to Fatboy with him again.”

Check out the video above and look out for the documentary of the execution soon.
