As the temperature drops and Christmas trees start appearing in the shops, that can only mean one thing - ugly sweater season is upon us.

Once the preserve of sad dads and office odd-bods, they're now an ironic stalwart in every hipster's wardrobe - but for Nicola Formichetti, artistic director at Diesel, they're a fashion faux-pas too far.

So, in order to take a stand against 'Uncool Wool', the fashion brand and its agency, Publicis Italia, have enlisted a fresh new face for its 2017 fall/winter campaign - a trendy sheep. Clad in leather jacket and skinny denims, the ovine model makes for a somewhat unconventional choice of brand ambaaaaaassador (see what we did there?) but think about it: who else is such an authority on wool?

Formichetti's lightbulb moment is captured in a documentary-style spot [top], and the results can be seen in Diesel's new global winter holidays campaign, which will play out via a series of social videos.

The ovine mannequins, dressed with clothes specially tailored to their odd shapes and sizes, are also set to pop up in Diesel stores all around the globe. But don’t worry: all the items will be available in human sizes, too. And if you're curious to find out how they did it, check out the 'How to dress a sheep' video below.
