'Dancing car' ads, in which teams of cars perform synchronised routines, are nothing new. Every few years since at least the 1980's, we see the year's newest models spinning, twirling or, in this alarming spot from 2007 advertising Renault's safety credentials [below], crashing in mid-air.
However, whereas these have all been achieved purely by teams of incredibly precise stunt drivers and remote control rigs, Crafter, directed by Jesper Skoubølling of Uitch Iscratch for Danish agency Subsero, combines stunt driver talent with the VW Crafter van's own park assist and side protection technologies to prevent the cars from colliding.
These two van features allow the vans to get into some pretty tight spots, with the final stunt seeing a van with a trailer attached reverse trailer-first in between two rows of vans without the driver even touching the steering wheel.
Although the in-car tech that allows this to happen is front and centre in ad, the van drivers do end the ad by getting out of their vehicles and giving us a well-deserved bow.
