Uppercut announce that Senior Editor Ryan Spears has joined the roster.

The Emmy Award winner, four-time nominee...scratch that, make it five, thanks to his 2026 nomination for editing Saturday Night Live's viral Home Alone parody.

Spears joins Uppercut during an absolute tear for the post-production boutique, marking another major move in the company's continued momentum across New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. And if you think this is our last big move, stay tuned.

“Bringing Ryan aboard isn’t just a big win, it’s a massive exclamation point on where Uppercut is going,” said Micah Scarpelli, Founder of Uppercut. “Our expansion over the past two years hasn't been a coincidence; it’s been a very intentional, strategic vision. From elevating key internal leaders to partner, to growing our presence in LA, and making major roster moves across the board, every piece of the plan is falling into place. Ryan brings a rare ability to execute comedy and high stakes narrative under absurd deadlines. His mix of late-night precision and collaborative warmth fits right into our culture.”

For Tara Holmes, Executive Producer, getting Spears onto the roster felt like destiny catching up with timing. "I've admired Ryan's work for years," says Holmes. "When we first met, over a year ago, I walked away thinking, 'He belongs at Uppercut.' But the timing wasn't right for either of us. When our paths crossed again recently, everything aligned. Like a well landed joke, the timing was perfect."

Executive Producer Andrea Aronson adds, "Welcoming Ryan feels especially meaningful because of the working relationship we’ve built over the years. He is one of the sharpest comedic editors in the business, with an unmatched instinct for timing and storytelling. I couldn't be more thrilled to build on our history and bring his incredible talent to new creative partners."

For Spears, the jump to Uppercut marks an exciting shift to focus on commercial work. “Everyone at Uppercut has been so friendly, open, and supportive,” says Spears. “I love the energy of the New York based operation with reach in LA and Atlanta. It feels like a real community in the midst of robust growth and I’m excited to cultivate my creative voice here.”

To understand what Spears brings to an edit room, look past the late night deadlines to his improv trained "yes, and..." philosophy. He treats unexpected client notes and tight limitations as creative rocket fuel rather than roadblocks. That problem solving range spans from rapid fire TV sketch comedy to heavy independent documentaries, including a project tracking structural engineers assisting the cleanup at Ground Zero, giving him a deep narrative foundation that makes unscripted comedy setup land naturally.

He’s even spent time as a volunteer scuba diver cleaning exhibits at the New York Aquarium, officially making him shark wrangler adjacent (a side quest currently on pause while juggling crazy timelines with raising a toddler). Whether he's navigating live TV rooms or crafting tight commercial cuts, Spears brings an unshakeable calm to the room. But more than that, his arrival reinforces what Uppercut is all about: pairing powerhouse, world class talent with a white glove client experience from ingest to final delivery. In short, walking into an edit room at Uppercut means getting heavy hitting creative firepower wrapped in unbeatable hospitality. A combination that lands a total knockout every single round.
