Friday 10th June is Childhood Day, the day we all come together to raise money for the NSPCC and help keep children safe.

Produced by UNIT9 Films and created by the agency Open, the film follows nine-year-old Devine as he wakes up on the morning of Childhood Day. “This is a day for us” he declares, as he leaps out of bed and gets ready for his day of play. Following him through the house, we’re drawn in by his infectious enthusiasm for Childhood Day, and for the role us “mums, dads and people in big offices” can play, too.

But through the excitement and the bustle of breakfast and school bags, there’s a serious reason to get involved, the abuse, fear, and loneliness that over half a million children face each year. Animation brings his imagination and this message to life in a poignant way, and makes it clear to us that kids can’t fight this abuse alone.

Devine tells us what we need to do, and how we can all play our part in keeping children safe, from raising money to dressing up, and playing games.

As his best friend arrives with a tray of cupcakes and they leave to celebrate Childhood Day at school, we’re left with a clear message to sign up and play our part.

The film was directed by Luke & Joseph at UNIT9 Films: "We were genuinely excited to create an optimistic film that was underpinned by a very important issue. Devine our young lead actor was the key to revealing that enthusiasm, he was an inspiration on set. For a young performer to learn all those lines and keep that sense of focus and energy throughout the shoot was a joy to experience. We are really proud of his performance and the whole crew that pulled together to help create this buoyant film for NSPCC."

The film launched on April 25th and will be backed by a future TVC.
