Created by VMLY&R Brisbane, the campaign aims to drive home The Coffee Club’s 30 year obsession with coffee through the simple-yet-effective mantra, “Coffee is our middle name.”

“The Coffee Club’s passion for all things coffee is genuinely exciting, and so is creating work that reaches bravely into new spaces for the category.” says Ben Davis, ECD, VMLY&R Brisbane.

Co-directed by Lav Bodnaruk and Mike Mier of The Chop Shop, nothing in the cultural zeitgeist was safe from satire, with the commercial taking on celebrity perfume campaigns, 80’s ceramic rom-coms and even the caricatured caped crusader.

“To parody well-known pop cultural scenes, through witty and entertaining scenarios, was a fun challenge.” says Director Mike Mier.

“We love the idea of being a one stop shop and collaborating with an agency early in the process. It gives us a sense of ownership, enabling us to throw more at the craft whilst raising stakes where possible” says Director, Lav Bodnaruk.

Starring Australian comedian Nick Cody, The Coffee Club’s new campaign demonstrates Australia’s cultural co-dependence with the brewed beverage.

“Coffee’s what we think about every day, it’s what we live and breathe,” says Nick Bryden, CEO of The Coffee Club.

The Chop Shop handled the campaign from start to finish, with their chief of Post (ChoP) Caleb De Leon overseeing the visual effects.

“We utilised a combination of Unreal Engine and Flame to give ourselves a sandbox to play in. There’s something pure about having the Director and creatives crowding around a screen as you build and light your environment in real time.”, adds Caleb De Leon.
