SourceEcreative Makes the Scene at Cannes Lions 2011

The south of France is gripped by its annual creative
frenzy as the ad world descends on Cannes.

The Lions 2011 Festival is soon to be history.

The Cannes party and pub crawl continues as the week works its way toward the ultimate goal for production companies, winning a Lion. The Film and Film Craft shortlists have been announced (click on the links to review them online), and SourceEcreative will have a wrap-up of the major winners on our home page this coming Monday.

On the seminar front, we enjoyed the annual Saatchi & Saatchi New Director Showcase, which this year opened with a live vocal and strobe lighting show that left some of us a little dazed and confused.

UK production houses seemed to take the lead this year, occupying the majority of spots on the showreels, including work from Passion Pictures and Knucklehead.  There was also work from Prettybird in the US, Passion Pictures in Australia, Giant Films in South Africa and Platige Image in Poland.  You can check all the work out at the YouTube site here.

The Massive Music party, held Wednesday night, was a huge success. In the last 10 years this bash has become the big highlight of the week in Cannes, and our friends from Amsterdam did not disappoint. Of course, being a music company, the sounds were top quality, and the party's 'decadence' theme was displayed with golden swans and gold-painted cherubs hanging from the lighting rig. The cherubs would sporadically drop down on to the dance floor to demand more partying – at least that's what I heard them screaming.  Hats off to the Massive employees who spent the evening hanging in these cradles, but it must have made for a hell of a view as a thousand people went crazy 30 feet below them.

A full wrap up on the events can be found on the Festival web site. SourceEcreative will have quick links to all the key winners' lists next week. Photos from the Festival appear below.
