Heads of Production, Directors and DGA Reps
Meet to Discuss Preferred Practices

The Directors Guild of America hosted the most recent Heads of Production meeting in New York, which took place on Tuesday, June 9 at the DGA headquarters in Manhattan, sponsored by SourceEcreative.  Among the issues discussed were an update on the guild’s recommended code of preferred practices, which spells out a list of recommended business practices between agencies and directors concerning such issues as informing production companies about jobs that have been awarded to other firms, the ability of the director to submit a first cut of a commercial to agencies and consulting on the choice of editor.  Also discussed were best practices for the submission of director’s treatments in the bidding process.  The DGA preferred practices document will be made available shortly.

In addition to 25 agency Heads of Production and Pamela Maythenyi, founder of SourceEcreative, the meeting was also attended by a group of directors: Bryan Buckley of Hungry Man, David Gray of Station Films, Jeff Preiss of Epoch Films, Bruce Van Dusen of Bully Pictures, Stan Schofield of Schofield Films and Laura Belsey of Shadow Pictures. The DGA was represented by Russell Hollander, DGA Eastern Executive Director; Jean Frost, DGA Assistant Executive Director; and Jon Larson, DGA Associate Western Executive Director.

It's an E-Trade reunion--Gray was a creative at Goodby who worked on the
E-Trade spots that Buckley directed and Fluitt produced.
