Founded by Brazilian director, Rodrigo Saavedra and Danish executive producer, Phie Hansen, and joined by a team of stellar talents from around the world, production company Immigrant is opening with offices in São Paulo, Copenhagen and Amsterdam.

“The name is a tribute to the ethos of our industry," says Saavedra, former partner at LANDIA. "To the adventurers who lift their gaze and venture out in the world. To all the people who go where the wind takes them, as they work to become the best at what they do. I’ve taken a certain pride in being an immigrant all my adult life. So we want to stand for that. ”

"Working on global campaigns we’ve found that there is an intent and desire to move the needle," adds Hansen, former managing director of Hobby Film in Denmark, "but that often is limited to attempts at diversity in the form of casting briefs.

"Diversity should be about more than faces! It should be be about stories. Stories told from the inside out, so that we’re not reinforcing stereotypes in pursuit of a visual shorthand. Not least, so that we’re working towards making opportunities equal. Inviting the outsiders in.”

Saavedra is joined on the roster by Torben Kjelstrup, Elena Petitti di Roreto, Michael Lawrence, Mar+Vin, Virgili Jubero, Pedro Martin-Calero, João Retorta, Cristina Stretiwik, and Axel Byrfors.

“As a director, these are people, whose work I admire," comments Saavedra. "Of course, we have big established international directors here: Michael. Torben. Pedro. Axel. But there are also some names who perhaps aren’t so familiar, but have the same talent and international relevance in their work.

"Elena is an inspiration to me. Cristina, João and Virgili are all stars in their own markets who we want to help find footing abroad. Mar+Vin. Well, just look at the work!!! And their attitude and what they bring into the work as well.

"We’re just very excited by all of them.”
