Critically acclaimed director/cinematographer Mai Iskander is the newest addition to the roster of directors at C41 Media. Notes C41 co-founder Pete Sillen, “Mai’s work is incredibly powerful and resonates emotionally because of her ability to capture authentic human moments.” Among Iskander’s initial projects for C41 are a forthcoming campaign for Whirlpool, a video for Apple Music, and an untitled documentary about Marin Alsop, the first female director of a major American symphony. Other recent projects for Iskander include commercial campaigns for Liberty Mutual and Wyndham. Born to an Egyptian father and Czech mother, Mai’s stories focus on the universal themes of compassion and inspiration. “I am thrilled to join the C41 team,” says Iskander. “It is exciting to be part of a growing company that fills a void in the marketplace.”

Iskander’s first film, Garbage Dreams, premiered at the SXSW Film Festival and the International Documentary Film Festival, won 26 international awards, was shortlisted for the 2010 Academy Awards and nominated for Best Documentary by the Director’s Guild of America. Iskander was named to SHOOT Magazine’s 2015 New Directors Showcase and her commercial work has been featured in Adweek and Arri News.

Launched in 2011 by award-winning documentary filmmaker/commercial director Pete Sillen and his producer/collaborator Brendan Doyle, C41 Media is a full-service production company headquartered in New York City’s Chinatown. Joined by Executive Producer and longtime commercial producer Carla Tate in 2015, C41 has assembled a roster of documentary-style directors who focus on “real people storytelling” in projects spanning television commercials, online content and documentary films.
