Production Companies, Post Houses Rack Up Spots in Supe’ 44 Time to check your scorecards—not for the teams, as we all know who came out on top there, but rather for the production companies and post houses that produced the 80-plus spots that ran on the Super Bowl 44 broadcast. (See all Super Bowl spots in our Just Breaking section this week.) SourceEcreative tracked the production and post providers whose work was most visible during the broadcast, and came up with an impressive roster of shops that had a hand in multiple ads shown during the game. At the top of the list is MJZ, whose directors were well represented. The company produced 10 spots, working for Bud Light, Emerald Nuts and Pop Secret, Snickers, Bridgestone and other brands. MJZ Director Craig Gillespie had six spots on the game, making him the Super Bowl's MVD--Most Visible Director. A close second for this honor was House of Usher’s Kinka Usher, who directed five spots in the competition. MJZ also had work from Dante Ariola, Tom Kuntz and Fredrik Bond in the game. Other major players included Biscuit Filmworks, which had seven spots on the broadcast, including four of the many Hyundai spots that ran from agency Innocean. Director Noam Murro teamed with Director Tim Godsall on the Hyundai work, while also shooting for Docker’s and Acura. Usher’s work included three spots for Denny’s and Goodby Silverstein & Partners, as well as a new Super Bowl spot for first-time advertiser KGB and The Brooklyn Brothers as well as the Charles Barkley spot for Taco Bell. Moxie had three spots on the big show, including one of the first new spots for VW from agency Deutsch/L.A., “Punch Buggy,” directed by comedy specialist Frank Todaro. Pam Thomas has a Pizza Hut spot on the show, “Settle,” and one of Errol Morris’ AT&T spots featuring actor Luke Wilson rounded out the company’s participation. Production companies with at least two spots on the broadcast included Hungry Man, Anonymous Content, GARTNER, Go Film and Pytka. Click3X and Sparks produced the new flight of ETrade talking baby commercials, part of the long-running and wildly popular campaign out of Grey New York. In the post production and VFX area, Spot Welders cut seven spots on the game, including work for Hyundia, Dodge, Motorola and Dove. Newly-formed Public VFX worked on five Super Bowl spots, four of them for Hyundai, for which it recently handled a 13-spot package, as well as the Dodge spot for Wieden + Kennedy, while Company 3 performed color grading on over 30 TV spots on the game--almost half of all the commercials shown. Sound Lounge mixed half a dozen spots including Monster.com, Snickers, TruTV and Mc. Donalds.
