What’s the best music video you’ve seen recently and why?

Surf Curse - Freaks. First of all, I love the song, but the video really takes me back to the days of B-movies by Roger Corman. They were a little bit horror and a little bit silly. You can tell this band does not take itself seriously either.

What’s the first music video you remember being impressed by?

This is so tough because I came of age in the MTV era where I spent the entire summer watching music videos when I wasn't outside playing.

My earliest memories were The Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star, X - Hungry Wolf and Madonna - Lucky Star and Borderline.

And what’s your all-time favourite music video?

It has to be Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit. I couldn't look away every time it was on, from the anarchy of it all to Kurt's beautiful face and piercing eyes, to Dave's pounding on the drums in a way I never witnessed before. I will still watch it if it's on.

What/who do you look to for inspiration?

My kids and their generation. They're way cooler than I ever was.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Fontaines D.C.’s Starburster. They have such a unique sound blending a bit of punk and rap into unintelligible lyrics that I will eventually have to look up.

What’s your favourite bit of tech, whether for professional or personal use?

If an instrument counts, I would say my mint green Danelectro guitar. Her name is Daisey.

What are some of the most interesting innovations emerging in the audio landscape?

I find the immersive and personalised sound experiences to really wow me, especially with home theatres.

Where do you see the audio industry being in five years’ time?

AI will likely play a big role, from being able to help curate compelling content that users want to hear to biometrics that can serve up playlists based on your mood and energy level.

Tell us what was the first record you ever bought?

I bought three at once: Go-Gos - Beauty and The Beat, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - I Love Rock 'n Roll and The J. Geils Band - Freeze-Frame.
