The production arm of leading production and post house Optimus, One at Optimus announced George Zwierzynski Jr. has signed on as director.

The award-winning director’s work ranges from comedic short films to commercial campaigns for brands including Ace Hardware, Avocados From Mexico, Boost Mobile, Dunkin’, Dyson, Intel, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Stella Artois, Totino’s, Truth and Xfinity.

Prior to signing with ONE, Zwierzynski Jr. was responsible for directing major branded campaigns and episodic series for The Onion. Additionally, he supervised the execution of all editorial, branded and episodic video production that came out of The Onion Labs.

“George brings a high level of comedic dialogue mixed with a cinematic touch,” said Optimus National Director of Sales and Acting Executive Producer Tim Jacobs. “He elevates our roster through his incredible experience at The Onion, Inc., where he created, strategized and directed major campaigns for a ton of national brands. I’m super excited to have George join the amazing ONE and Optimus culture. He’s a perfect fit!”

“The best part of my job is the collaboration that occurs between myself, the agency creatives and the brands we represent, all with the goal of achieving a memorable campaign. It's a great challenge that is undeniably rewarding. Not to mention that I get to help create clever scenarios and tell jokes for a living. Another solid perk,” said Zwierzynski Jr. “I’m thrilled to be part of the team at ONE, where I’ll gain even broader coverage across the Midwest under the leadership and representation of both Tim Jacobs and Optimus partner The Standard Society. I’m also excited to collaborate with Optimus' post team, which gives us such an advantage in ushering a campaign through to a successful launch. But to be truly honest, my biggest thrill will come when that jerk from high school sees this article."

In recent years, George was the EP and director of Judah vs. The Machines, a series for AOL/TechCrunch starring comedian Judah Friedlander. He also helmed EDGE, The Onion’s VICE series parody. Zwierzynski Jr. sharpened his directing skills in the early years of Dan Harmon’s (NBC’s Community) and Rob Schrab’s Channel 101, a monthly short film festival in Los Angeles.

Zwierzynski has an extensive production background, having worked with networks such as The History Channel (Gangland), CNBC (American Greed), Discovery Network and ESPN. Early in his career, he cut trailers and did behind-the-scenes work for the four major film studios in Los Angeles.

Zwierzynski is based in Chicago but shoots around the world. He currently has three feature films in development that he has written, one of which is entering the financing stage that he will direct this summer.
