Not To Scale Signs Director Joe Donaldson
Award-winning director, designer and animator Joe Donaldson joins Not To Scale's roster of directors.

Not To Scale, animation company with offices in London, Amsterdam and NYC, is thrilled to announce that it is welcoming award-winning director, designer, and animator Joe Donaldson to it’s already formidable roster of international filmmakers. Based in New York City but able to work internationally, Joe lives in the world of 2D animation, while also able to direct in live action.
Joe’s most recent work includes directing, designing and animating The New York Times Modern Love: Under His Misspell, for which he was awarded a 2014 YCN Professional Award. Previous work includes working with Buck, Digital Kitchen, Google Creative Lab, The Mill, and Psyop. He also worked on two independent collaborative projects, Seneca College and another going live at the end of August.
“We are thrilled to have Joe join our growing directorial team at Not to Scale,” says Dan O’Rourke, Founder, Executive Producer, and Managing Director at Not To Scale. “His diverse portfolio of work and unique talent perfectly complements the team.”
Joe is originally from Florida where, when not riding BMX bikes, he dabbled with cameras, filming, and editing. He later taught himself the basics of animation, with help from his lovely wife who introduced him to the book After Effects. He got his career started in Chicago, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute, before moving to New York City in 2012 to continue his directorial career.
When Joe is not behind the camera, he is still taking in the scenery on his BMX, using his own two eyes as lenses as he journeys through the city. “Nothing beats pedaling through New York City on a beautiful day,” says Joe.
