Nike is launching a new campaign that celebrates the unwavering faith of England fans ahead of the World Cup semi-final game against Argentina.

Since the entire concept rested on England beating Norway last weekend, the spot, created by Wieden+Kennedyand directed by Love Song director ILLIMITÉWORLD, came together in only a few days.

It was shot on Monday after just one day of prep, with editors and post teams working through the night to launch ahead of the game today. This required close collaboration between the agency, production company and Nike teams, and the same faith in England winning that the spot celebrates.

England have only ever won the World Cup once, in 1966, yet for sixty years the fans have carried an unwavering belief that this might finally be the year. Tournament after tournament, they return with pubs overflowing, flags hanging from windows and the soundtrack already written: "Back Home", "World in Motion", "Three Lions", "Vindaloo" songs racing up the charts and convincing an entire nation that football really is coming home. Is it blind optimism? National delusion? Collective madness? Perhaps. But supporting England has never really been about evidence; it has been about faith - the kind that survives penalties, red cards, heartbreak and decades of glorious failure.

Wayne Rooney, the fearless teenage phenomenon who arrived at the 2006 World Cup carrying the expectations of a nation, only for injury, a red card and another quarter-final exit to leave England, stars in the spot. His football career highlights include being Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer and, for a time and England’s record goalscorer. In this spot we see him as the face of English "insanity". His face painted in England flag warpaint, a nod to his notorious 2006 Nike print campaign also by Wieden + Kennedy.

Director Marleaux Désiré of ILLIMITÉWORLD said: “We’re interested in the space between what people see and what they think they know. That’s where the story lives. We brought this film from idea to screen in under 48 hours, which made trusting our instincts even more important. I’m proud of what the team was able to create under that kind of pressure.”
