Niclas Larsson joins Pine

Production company Pine welcomes the internationally award-winning director and screenwriter to the team.
Over the past decade, Niclas Larsson has established himself as one of Sweden’s leading international directors, with a career moving seamlessly between commercials and fiction.
His commercial work includes films for some of the world’s biggest brands, including Volvo, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, WhatsApp and Lufthansa. For the commercials The Parents for Volvo and See the Unseen for Volkswagen, Larsson was nominated for a Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials. He has also been recognized at Cannes Lions for his work on the Mercedes-Benz film In The Long Run and directed the acclaimed short film The Magic Diner for Vogue, starring, among others, Alicia Vikander and Anna Wintour.
In 2023, Larsson made the transition to feature filmmaking with his international directorial debut, Mother, Couch, which he both wrote and directed. The film, starring Ewan McGregor, Ellen Burstyn, Taylor Russell, Rhys Ifans and F. Murray Abraham, among others, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and the following year won the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film at the Göteborg Film Festival.
For Pine, the collaboration also marks a reunion. Founders Joel Rostmark and Adam Holmström Meinking have a long-standing relationship with Larsson and have produced several of his previous commercial projects together.
“It feels incredibly exciting and, at the same time, very natural. We have a long-standing relationship with Niclas and have worked extensively together over the years, so getting to do it again feels fantastic. Niclas has a unique voice and is one of the few directors who truly masters both commercials and fiction at the highest international level. That is something we have always found both inspiring and impressive. The experience Niclas brings is incredibly valuable to us here at Pine, but also to the Swedish commercial industry as a whole,” says Meinking.

For Larsson, the collaboration with Pine marks a new chapter in a relationship that dates back to his early years as a director.
“Joel and Adam have produced me both in fiction and commercially since the very beginning of my career as a director, and as a result, they understand my rhythm and methods better than almost anyone else. That makes it a natural choice for me to begin the next chapter of my career at Pine. Pine is also a hungry company with an impressive in-house team that I have long admired.
