To announce their exciting events calendar for the winter of 2022, The Abu Dhabi Department of Tourism and Culture collaborated with Serviceplan Middle East to create this playful campaign, directed by Nalle Sjoblad through Deja Vu, starring famed NBA player Shaqille O’Neal.
O'Neal is famously known for his love of Abu Dhabi, and the series of ads featuring him as a news anchor borrow from his quirky online personality, while the events are the true star of the show.
The department wanted to create gravitas around each event in the calendar, and the concept of casting the basketball star as the news anchor to announce the upcoming lineup of events seemed like a perfect match.
“As exciting as it is to shoot with legends like Shaq, the logistics involved in the run-up to it is always like walking a tight rope. We had less than half a day of shoot time with Shaq, understandably considering his packed schedule and travel." explained Manasvi Gosalia, Executive Producer at Déjà Vu.
"Of course, Shaq is simply flawless when the camera starts rolling, so that made things easier. The only downside to his perfect take after take would be that now we don’t have a bloopers reel.”
