Demonstrating a strong commitment to championing the next generation of filmmakers, international production company VGBND recently produced Aftershave, a striking new short film from rising director Mateo Carratú.

The project achieved major global recognition this summer, securing a prestigious spot on the highly competitive shortlist for the 2026 Young Directors Award (YDA) in Cannes.

While the film ultimately missed out on the final trophy, earning a place on the YDA shortlist is a massive milestone that highlights Carratú’s distinct visual storytelling and creative growth. Navigating the immense challenges of independent production with an uncompromising artistic vision, Carratú delivers a compelling narrative arc that resonates through its striking atmosphere and cinematic precision.

As the producers behind the project, VGBND focused on providing the practical production infrastructure and logistical support necessary to bring Carratú’s vision to life. By investing in fresh directorial voices and offering them the right platform to create, the collaboration highlights VGBND's ongoing dedication to developing young industry talent.

The film serves as an inspiring blueprint for what can be achieved when a singular young voice is paired with a forward-thinking production partner dedicated to investing in the future of filmmaking.
