Director Mat Humphrey Joins Tate USA

Director Mat Humphrey has signed with Tate USA.

The Aussie director Mat Humphrey has joined L.A.-based Tate USA for North American representation for commercials.  He continues with The Guild of Commercial Filmmakers, his Sydney-based production company.  The announcement was made by David Tate, founder of the company and Executive Producer.

Humphrey was introduced to the company by Tate USA EP Michael Romersa, who heads up the company's stereoscopic 3D division. Over the last decade his work in Australia has countless international awards, including medals from The One Show, Cannes Lions, London International and Clios.

"In addition to Mat's skills as a director, he's also a great communicator," says Tate USA Executive Producer Rossi Cannon.  "David and I both feel that's an essential quality and the real task of a director. I remember when I was first watched his reel, every spot reflected a clear line of communication. That made us want to get on the phone with him as soon as we could."

Humphrey's work ranges from comedy to drama, and includes work for a wide range of product categories, including automotive, package goods, PSAs and other.  His work for the Transport Accident Commission and the Cancer Institute of New South Wales is most notable, as is work for such brands as Oreo, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, HSBC, Jeep, Purina, Suzuki and others.

"His work reflects a wide diversity, and his storytelling capabilities are impressive," ways Cannon.  "We were especially moved by the emotional level that he achieves in a lot of his spots, and that makes him a perfect fit not just for our market, but for the directorial roster here at Tate USA."
