The only thing more contagious than a winter's cold is Christmas cheer, and, with Santa Girl, the newest spot for Macy’s, BBDO captures that message exactly.
After seeing Santa in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, our protagonist Virginia is inspired by the holiday spirit and decides that she wants to spread the same holiday spirit... by embodying Saint Nick himself.
Despite classmates trying to spoil her spirit, Virginia is lifted up by her parents as they make her Christmas wish come true by waking her up in the middle of the night to a restorative surprise, leaving our heroine filled with festive cheer (and viewers with tears in their eyes).
Put together by RESET Content’s Oscar-nominated director Garth Davis and Emmy-winning cinematographer, Adam Arkapaw, the filmic prowess of the commercial is admirable, as is the joyous climax.
“At Macy’s,” comments chief marketing officer, Rich Lennox, “we know the power of celebration, bringing friends and family of all generations together, whether shopping in our stores or enjoying our iconic events.”
“With Santa Girl, we’ve created one of our most powerful campaigns to date, bringing to life the magic and wonder of the season, while further positioning Macy’s like the gift authority and Believe [in the Wonder, this year’s iconic Macy’s Herald Square holiday windows on Broadway] as the emotional epicenter of the holidays.”
