Léa Esmaili joins Blinkink for UK representation.
Based in London and Paris, Esmaili is a mixed-media director, photographer, and multidisciplinary artist. Léa has created films for Puma, Yonex, Paris Basketball, and French artist Yvnnis.
With a background in photography, fashion and installation art, Esmaili has a phenomenal ability to create striking and unique visuals. There's a surreal undercurrent to her work. Her camera moves are dynamic yet observational and she merges light, texture, and emotion to truly capture the essence of her subjects.
For nearly twenty years, Blinkink have been at the forefront of animation and mixed-media filmmaking. In recent years the studio has been combining their craft-focused approach to animation with slick live-action production and performances to create work that straddles multiple mediums, techniques, and tones.
Esmaili's signing expands Blinkink's live-action offering and continues their reputation for supporting young talent. Her eye for design and inventive visuals make her a perfect fit for the London studio.
Esmaili's Pauletta for Yvnnis, is a mixed-media tour de force: glitch cuts, distortion, 16mm set builds, 3D animation, and dream-like live action. It's all there and it's a perfect example of Blinkink's brand of filmmaking.
A dance battle reframed: The Art Of Competition is poetic and visually stunning. Esmaili's control over light, texture, and composition highlights the drama within the choreography, bringing narrative to each set of movements. Her images bring the film to life. Trouble in the barbershop, with beautiful photography and subtle performances, is a really nice little spot for Undercover Paris.
Esmaili's work for jewellery brand Wizard Garden, combines dynamic choreography with a black and white one-shot in reverse and a roaring classical score.
Esmaili's short film for denim brand Nubes feels dreamlike. Part poem, part sketch, the film combines 2D animation with absurd live action to feel both poignant and completely cheeky. We love it and we cannot wait to see what she's going to do next.
