Director Kellen Keene, latest addition to the roster at Assembly Films, captures reverent observations of natural beauty, humanity, and adventure for clients such as Patagonia, Yeti, and National Geographic.

He came about his passion for film organically… literally, while out exploring nature and the living world. At 16, he had his first surf film projected on the side of the local shop. He was hooked.

Keene recognises himself as one of a lucky few who stumble upon their great passion in life early and effortlessly. He remembers declaring at a young age and with unshakable conviction, “I’m going to make movies.” And that was that.

The passion may have been effortless, but rising in an industry akin to dancing with chaos was not. Keene worked summers on commercial fishing boats in Alaska to fund his dream. Transforming challenges into steppingstones, Keene recalls, “I was building housings and buying cameras … putting it all together and figuring it all out at a young age.”

Storytelling became Keene's compass, helping him find his way to working with elite brands and perfecting the art of visuals woven with raw emotions. Keene's pure voice brings a quality of adventure because his love for it is authentic and deep. Currently, he lives on his farm in hometown, San Luis Obispo, CA, where he spends his days immersed in the lifestyle he captures on film.

Kellen Keene is a welcomed addition to the crew at Assembly, where he joins nine other skilled directors ripe with talent ranging from comedy, cars, drama, and documentary, to lifestyle, testimonials, action, and fashion.
