James A. Demetriou gets to WORK
The London-based editor joins the company’s roster for global representation.
Editor James A. Demetriou has joined the WORK roster, bringing experience across film, commercials, branded content, music videos and documentary-led projects.
Based in London and working through his own operation, Amuse the Butcher, Demetriou has built a body of work shaped by performance, atmosphere and emotionally driven storytelling. Raised in London with Polish and Greek Cypriot heritage, he came to editing through a self-taught route, drawn to stories centred on tension, texture and characters who “don’t fit neatly into one box”.
Most recently, he edited Wasteman, directed by Cal McMau, which has received recognition at TIFF, the BIFAs and a BAFTA nomination. Speaking about the project, Demetriou says: “It was the kind of project that asks a lot from an editor: performance, tension, silence, violence, tenderness, restraint. It’s a prison thriller, but the real engine is emotional. Cutting that kind of material is about protecting the humanity inside the pressure cooker”.
His previous work with director Ilya Naishuller includes music videos for The Weeknd’s False Alarm and Leningrad’s Kolshik, both of which received recognition at awards including D&AD, Cannes Lions and the Berlin Music Video Awards.
Jane Dilworth, Founding Partner at WORK, says: “James is an incredible editor with true instinctive talent. He has the wonderful ability to tell stories with drama and humour and also a lovely person to sit in a room with!”
Demetriou adds: “WORK has always felt like a company with real editorial taste. It has craft at the centre of it, but not in a cold or precious way. That combination is exactly what I’m drawn to: high standards, strong relationships, and editors with distinct voices. I like that WORK has a proper London editing heritage but also an international reach.”
Frankie Elster, EP in London, says: “James is an exciting addition to our London office, he’s incredibly skilled and a natural fit. I’m looking forward to this new chapter for both of us”.
