On 5 August 2012 NASA’s Curiosity Rover robot landed on Mars. And there it has remained for the last ten years, beetling around on the surface of the Red Planet, the loneliest automaton in the Solar System.
But now, as Curiosity’s tenth anniversary approaches, Swedish outdoor power tools manufacturers Husqvarna have equipped 100,000 of their robotic lawnmowers across the US, Europe and Australia to sing Happy Birthday to their soulmate 140 million miles away.
Simon Jung Krestesen’s sensitive direction gives the machines in From Robot to Robot - Happy Birthday tons of personality, and despite its entirely non-human cast, this sweet film, created by Swedish agency Prime Weber Shandwick through Diktator, has tremendous humanity.
