International production studio Hamlet have signed award-winning British director Joseph Mann for representation in France, Belgium, China and the APAC region.

Mann grew up heavily influenced by puppet legend Jim Henson, and as a teenager indulged in music videos by the likes of Spike Jonze and Michel Gondry. After graduating from art school, he embraced the world of filmmaking with a style born from a love of craft.

Working in camera as much as possible, Mann combines his eye for design with character-focused storytelling and comedy performance, allowing him to combine charming cinematic visuals with wit. It's this skill that has enabled Joseph to create notable campaigns for brands such as Anchor, Axe, Candy Crush, Cravendale, Deliveroo, O2 and McCoy's.

Mann commented: "The best thing about being a director is working with such a wide variety of human beings from all walks of life, it’s such an incredible privilege. Not a day goes by when I don’t learn something new from someone I’m working with. Which is why I signed to Hamlet. Their roster boasts an incredible eclectic mix of directors who’s work I’ve admired for yonks."

Jason Felstead, co-founder and Executive Producer added: “I was very flattered when Joseph reached out a while back because I have always been a huge fan of his work, his Cravendale spot made me discover his work a few years ago. Joseph brings such quirkiness and subtle comedy from the world of puppetry and animation, something that he brings into live action as well, which for me was a trigger to make our relationship more official. At Hamlet we have always strived to sign directors with a strong technical background but surrounded by emotion. I find that in Joseph's work, he has a good approach to the mixed techniques he uses. We don’t really have anyone competing with Joseph’s work on our current roster and we do get approached with scripts that relate to what he does, so signing Joseph just makes a lot of sense. I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Mann has been awarded gold and silver at British Arrows, gold at Creative Circle,  honoured at Cannes YDA, UKMVAs, shots and the prestigious Camerimage Festival.
